It's really easy to make poor choices, especially if they don't seem ridiculously stupid at the time. I was riding my scooter around town, and at a stop light pulled out my phone to check the map -- I couldn't remember if it was a left on 29th or 39th, I hit a pot hole, and there went the phone. That led me to look into one of these.
The Arkon GPS and Smartphone Waterproof Hard Case with bicycle and motorcycle mounts is a great way to use what you already have available but without the fear of your phone getting damaged or lost. First off, it's super easy to install. The included hardware will fit bicycle and motorcycle handle bars up to 33 mm. in diameter (or about 1-1/4 inches) and is designed to be compatible with most straight, drop, trekking, and touring sized handlebars. The waterproof case will fit most all smart phones, or even the portable GPS only units -- but let's face it, most of us have the GPS built into the phone, so why not just use it? It comes with three pieces of foam to ensure a snug fit in the case. There is also a cutout on the bottom for easy access to plug in a charger (which I'm guessing is already connected to you motorcycle battery). The transparent touch-through lens allows for easy screen navigation, though I found that with gloves on, it made it quite difficult to press the right button, so fingerless gloves are probably a necessity.
Also check out the Garmin Aqua Box for another GPS mounting idea.
