They seemed to have the same purpose, and a lot of the time they have the same look. Then I really started thinking about it: the only difference is the psychological response you have to the name. Think about it; if you're putting on "crash bars," you're telling yourself (most likely subliminally) that you will eventually crash. But use the word "highway bars," and you're ready to jump on your ride and head out on the open road. Perhaps this is why they don't call a physical at the doctors office a "butt exam."

The National Cycle Paladin Chromed Steel Highway Bars are made completely out of, you guessed it, steel. The 11/4"-diameter tube construction makes these very durable and sure to protect your engine from getting damaged if you accidently lay your bike over. The bright chrome finish doesn't stand out from the other chrome on your motorcycle, and the Highway Bars look very clean when installed. You can add almost any highway pegs onto these bars, too, and finding the most comfortable place is no problem at all. These are made specifically for the 1998-2003 Honda VT750C/CD Shadow ACE, and probably won't fit on other models, but luckily National Cycle makes bars for a wide range of bikes.

Honda Phoenix Motorcycle Performance Exhaust Insert Kit | Fits Stock EX400 1999 to 2009 http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/honda-phoenix-motorcycle-performance-exhaust-insert-kit-fits-stock-ex400-1999-to-2009/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/honda-phoenix-motorcycle-performance-exhaust-insert-kit-fits-stock-ex400-1999-to-2009/#comments Sat, 17 Sep 2011 20:31:10 +0000 Andy http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=7387 Honda Phoenix Motorcycle PerformanceIf you were around during the '90s, I'm sure you've seen (or have at least heard of) Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor and his shenanigans on the TV sitcom Home Improvement. His constant love of making machines that could produce more power than they should have rightly been able to got him in a few sticky situations on the show, but the idea that you can just do a little bit of customization to your machine and get more performance out of it is a much more appealing thought than overdoing it. With products like the Phoenix Performance Exhaust Insert, you can add a little more punch to your Honda without the risk of something blowing up in your face.

The Exhaust Insert fits in any stock Honda EX400 from 1999-2009 and is ridiculously easy to install. All you have to do is unbolt the factory unit (on the end of the stock muffler) and using the hardware provided bolt on the new insert. The Phoenix Insert will give you 10-15% more power instantly and produce louder sound (at right around 92dB) to help you get noticed out on the road. It's polished 304 Stainless Steel and will not rust or discolor. It's not the same as adding a new exhaust system to your bike, but it's an inexpensive alternative to add a little sound and power to it.

Honda Motorcycle Gas Tank Mount | BMW Adjustable Camera, GPS & Video Holder http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/honda-motorcycle-gas-tank-mount-bmw-adjustable-camera-gps-video-holder/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/honda-motorcycle-gas-tank-mount-bmw-adjustable-camera-gps-video-holder/#comments Fri, 12 Nov 2010 22:32:42 +0000 Star http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=6080 Honda Motorcycle Gas Tank Mount This adjustable tank mount is for your camera, GPS, phone, mp3 player, or video recorder. The first thing you should know about this item is that it ONLY fits Honda and BMW motorcycles with traditional gas caps in the top center of the tank. The reason for this is that it mounts around the gas cap. It comes with all the hardware required to mount several different types of equipment.

With this item, you can adjust the placement of your equipment. We have all seen the numerous movies on YouTube made by riders with a camera mounted somewhere on their bike or on their person. Usually, the camera is mounted at a fixed angle, giving a rather uninteresting result -- with the exception of the guys who mount the camera and then proceed to do something incredibly dangerous, silly, illegal, or all of the above -- don't be that guy, please. An adjustable mounted camera gives you the opportunity to capture things around you, regardless of where they are, to a certain degree.

The mount can also be used for radar detectors and EZ Pass for those long freeway trips. The mount is made of steel with a power-coating of black. It is easy to install and remove, and it is quite affordable as well.

You can also keep your valuable electronics waterproof with this mountable travel case.

Sport Touring Motorcycle “Fenda Extenda” | VTEC Engine Fender Cover, Honda VFR800 http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/sport-touring-motorcycle-fenda-extenda-vtec-engine-fender-cover-honda-vfr800/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/sport-touring-motorcycle-fenda-extenda-vtec-engine-fender-cover-honda-vfr800/#comments Tue, 30 Mar 2010 19:52:04 +0000 Tim http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=5123 Sport Touring Motorcycle The Honda VFR is one of the best sport touring motorcycles ever made. I think every motorcycle magazine in the world has named it "Motorcycle of the Year" at some point. Because it's such a great all-around mount, VFR riders tend to rack up the miles. Obviously, these proud riders want to keep the Big Red machine protected and looking good. The Honda VFR800 VTEC Motorcycle Fenda Extenda is a nice add-on that does just that.

The function of the Fenda Extenda (I guess they have something against the letter R) is to protect the bodywork and frontal engine components from stray rocks and road debris. One of the most vulnerable components needing protection behind the front wheel is the radiator. The Fenda Extenda serves this protective function, as the name hints, by extending the front fender a few inches. It is not visually obtrusive in that it is a subtle matte black. If you are looking for a little flair, I have also seen it offered in Carbon Fibre.

If you are going to rack up the miles on your VFR, this is a nice add-on. It fits well and is functional. Installation of this item would be measured in minutes, not hours. I guess you could say it is a great "radiata protecta"!

Motorcycle Sportbike Outdoor Cover, Honda VFR | Includes Lock & Cable http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/motorcycle-sportbike-outdoor-cover-honda-vfr-includes-lock-cable/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/motorcycle-sportbike-outdoor-cover-honda-vfr-includes-lock-cable/#comments Tue, 09 Mar 2010 10:45:42 +0000 Tim http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=5010 Motorcycle Sportbike Outdoor Cover,I don't talk price much in these product reviews. However, at under $40 including a lock and cable, this cover seems like a heck of a deal. VFR owners are a proud lot, and justifiably so. The do-it-all sportbike is a winner. This cover allows you to protect the Honda on the road from both the elements and wandering hands.

The feature list is impressive to say the least. The cover is water resistant and breathable. The breathability is important to prevent condensation build-up. It boasts a chamois panel, which is stitched in where the cover would touch windscreen and fuel tank areas to prevent scratches. The lower panel is constructed of heat resistant "Thermoguard". I don't know if I would place the cover over a blazing hot VFR exhaust, but this should hold up well to moderate heat.

Reinforced poly-grommets are placed in the center and in the front wheel area for security and a snug fit. These grommets also accept the included cable lock. Since the fabric is "middleweight", this is the kind of cover that can be stowed on the bike for touring situations.

With the features listed above, and when you take into consideration the fact that this package includes the lock and cable, you see that this is a truly remarkable deal. VFR riders rejoice!

Vance & Hines Chrome Exhaust Pipe Kit, Pro HS | Honda Shadow Sabre http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/vance-hines-chrome-exhaust-pipe-kit-pro-hs-honda-shadow-sabre/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/vance-hines-chrome-exhaust-pipe-kit-pro-hs-honda-shadow-sabre/#comments Thu, 18 Feb 2010 00:14:56 +0000 Tim http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=4970 Vance & Hines Chrome Exhaust Pipe Kit,I'll admit up-front that I am not a cruiser guy. However, I do understand and appreciate aftermarket exhausts. In fact, I had a Vance and Hines exhaust on a Kawasaki ZX-10 that I used to own. It was a well-made and nice sounding piece.

Most motorcyclists understand that aftermarket exhausts do not always provide a performance boost. In fact, they often create issues that have to be addressed on the intake side, like jetting or computer mapping. Vance and Hines does make a subtle claim of "power" for the Honda Shadow Sabre, but that is not the main focus for most of the cruiser market.

The look and sound of the exhaust is the feature that Vance and Hines is marketing in this system. The system is supposed to be designed to prevent heat discoloration, so that chrome gleam can live on for miles. They also boast a "removable baffle," which is a not-so-subtle invitation to make the system louder than stock.

After all, motorcycling is a visceral experience, and the unique sound a motorcycle makes is a big part of that experience. The system is not cheap, but no full exhaust system is. This may be a nice addition to your Honda Shadow Sabre.

AMA Honda Crew Racing Shirt | Mens Button Down HON305 http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/ama-honda-crew-racing-shirt-mens-button-down-hon305/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/ama-honda-crew-racing-shirt-mens-button-down-hon305/#comments Fri, 11 Sep 2009 02:51:21 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=3806 AMA Honda Crew Racing Shirt All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. Different scenes call for costume changes. If you don't believe it, think back to your last job interview. I don't know about you, but I wore a suit. I dress up for a night out and dress down for a night in. I wear my leathers when I ride, and I have a set of clothes for the garage.

Donning the Honda AMA crew shirt is an excellent way to get into a wrenching mindset. Styled with the unmistakable lines of Honda's racing crew, I wouldn't wear this when you settle in to work on your Yamaha, unless, of course, you have a sick sense of humor.

Not quite over the top, this shirt can be worn out into the light of day, so long as you don't mind people knowing your passion for Honda motorcycles. Perhaps not fine dining garb, but it wouldn't hurt on a first date to make sure everyone knows what they're getting involved in. Seriously, however, this shirt will wear comfortably well at any riding event or in your garage.

Honda put their name on it, and that should give you some peace of mind. Whether or not your personal style permits this bit of apparel into your closet is something you already know, so I'll just tell you that it'll run you a measly $60 or so.

Honda CBR Motorcycle Jacket | Black & White Textile Armored http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/honda-cbr-motorcycle-jacket-black-white-textile-armored/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/honda-cbr-motorcycle-jacket-black-white-textile-armored/#comments Tue, 08 Sep 2009 16:47:57 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=3403 Honda CBR Motorcycle Jacket I don't know if it's coincidence or just luck, but Honda always seems to know what I like: simple, strong, and easy on the eye. The Honda CBR textile jacket is all of these. It is even sold in my colors: black and white.

The cut is a traditional taper, which complements any rider aesthetically, and is adjustable in the arms and waist, which complements any rider comfortably. A high collar will prevent your neck from being exposed to the wind or rain from getting under your collar.

Abrasion-resistant AR-600 makes up the outer shell, and CE approved armor is conveniently located in the shoulders and elbows. Textile jackets are not known for their lack of airflow, but if you really need to cool down, there are strategically placed zipper-controlled vents.

This is an official Honda licensed product and bears the Honda name on the chest and the wing emblem on the arm. These are the only symbols displayed on this jacket. The visual appeal comes from the stitching, cut, and simplicity. This jacket is available in black, gray, and red.

Despite the fact that riders love this jacket, it is being shuffled off for newer models. This is good for you because you can find it on sale. So get shopping; this jacket will not disappoint.

Honda Racing Repsol Textile Jacket | Mens Pit Retro http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/honda-racing-repsol-mens-textile-pit-jacket/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/honda-racing-repsol-mens-textile-pit-jacket/#comments Tue, 11 Aug 2009 00:47:07 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=2865 Honda Racing Repsol Mens Textile PitI've always said that the key to cutting edge fashion is to wear something ugly as sin and still look good. I'm not saying that Honda's Repsol textile jacket is ugly; it's just not a modern style. This is the kind of jacket you pull out of your closet after three years and say, "What was I thinking?" and then pull it out after another seven years and say, "Wow, this is awesome!"

Right now, the Repsol textile is in the awesome phase. Pit jackets still have that 1970s look and will draw attention with bright colors and logos. Something about this coat makes it look a little appalling on the hanger but fantastic on the body. Maybe it's being so ballsy that you wear that many bright colors.

The Repsol jacket, in case you didn't know, is homage to the Honda Racing Corporation sponsored by Repsol. The Honda emblems should tip you off to the association. The jacket is constructed of abrasion-resistant AT-600 and has CE-approved protectors in the shoulders and elbows.

The Honda Repsol jacket is made for riding rather than pit work, so it has zipper vents in the front and back and reflective trim. All those colors will make sure you're seen on the road, regardless of that reflective trim.

Chase Harper Underseat Bag | Honda Ruckus http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/chase-harper-underseat-bag-honda-ruckus/ http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/chase-harper-underseat-bag-honda-ruckus/#comments Sat, 08 Aug 2009 23:56:28 +0000 Ila http://www.spotmotorcycles.com/?p=1790 Chase Harper Underseat Bag I always know when I see a road rider on a scooter because they still demonstrate their kinship with the larger machines by giving the salute, albeit half-embarrassed and understated. Practically, however, the scooter makes sense for the start-and-stop tight traffic of downtown. At least it isn't a car.

Although it is a wimp (no offense intended) beside my 650, the Honda Ruckus is an industrial little bike made for bare-bones use. You're not going to buy this little beast for the pure fun of it, so you're going to want a bag for running those chores.

Chase Harper has designed a bag just for the Ruckus' ample underseat space. Like all of Chase Harper's gear, the underseat bag comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty. You'll be able to use all of your underseat space due to the specificity of the design, and a shoulder strap makes this an easy carry off bag. The foam interior will keep your stuff from getting knocked around, but this isn't the best pack for wet riding since it lacks waterproofing.

At 21 inches long and 9 inches wide, with a tapering height, you'll have enough space for running to the store, the gym, or your buddy's BYOB barbecue.
