Picture the scene: You pull into a parking spot in the city, you secure your helmet on the bike's helmet lock, you put your disk lock in place, and you are ready to go to lunch. But wait -- you don't want to lug your jacket and tank bag to the restaurant. If you had the OnGuard Terrier Roller 5063 Cable Combination Lock in that tank bag, you'd have an option.
The OnGuard Terrier is a retractable cable, 36" in length, that includes an integrated combination lock. The cable is vinyl-coated and is said to remain flexible even in freezing weather. You can set your own 3-digit combination on the raised rollers. The theory is that you can loop the cable through the sleeve of a jacket or the handles of your tank bag and lock them to the frame of the bike.
I have to say that I like the idea of this product. However, I also have to say that I question the security of the light duty cable. Granted, the cable is surely intended as a deterrent for the casual thief rather than protection from the dastardly professional kleptomaniac. However, a good pair of side cutters could probably do the trick.
I think that this product could provide a little extra protection for items that you really could afford to lose. However, I would not trust it to protect your $500 Dainese leather jacket.
