I am not a fan of windshields. They remind me of CHiPs. But I'd be dumb to reject their practicality. Windshields don't exist solely for style; they prevent fatigue from being hit by wind for hours on end. On a still day, the current pressure is going to be determined by your speed. Add a headwind to that equation and you're going to be tired out after a day of riding. Despite my lack of aesthetic appreciation, I must admit that a windshield comes in handy on a long trip.
If you share my hesitation, the HD-3 Tombstone from Slipstreamer might be right for you. This is a small shield designed for cruisers. It is just big enough to redirect the airflow around your body, so you won't feel like you're sitting in a fishbowl. The name "Tombstone" relates to the unique shape of this windshield, and you can get it in a dark smoke to mimic the cold stone allusions of its moniker, or a discreet clear.
The anodized aluminum hardware comes in a standard 1-inch, or optional 7/8-inch and 1 1/4-inch. A quick release mounting system makes this a great buy for the crowd that doesn't want a windshield all the time. When you are done with the longest leg of your trip and feel like getting some air, the Tombstone will come off easily and is small enough to be stored away in a saddlebag.
